Wounds and Burns

Wounds / Burns can be treated non-operatively with dressings.  Wound care often begins with topical dressing changes to gently remove nonviable or contaminated tissue and promote healing by the body. Topically applied agents with active enzymatic components can help debride the devitalized (dead) tissue. Pulsavac treatment (pressurized salt water irrigation) can additionally prepare wounds for healing. Finally, when topical and local management fail, additional measures such as hyperbaric oxygen may be necessary. Infection control may require antibiotics or surgery. Common surgeries for wounds and burns include grafting tissues such as skin, fat, bone, or cartilage from elsewhere on the body, flaps which move vascularized skin, fascia, fat, or muscle with blood supply to the problem area, tissue expansion to create additional tissue by stretching adjacent areas, and topical negative pressure(VAC®) therapy. Dr. Park is skilled in each of these areas and is capable of all of the options in reconstruction, including the latest techniques and microsurgery (free flaps).

Rehabilitation may be necessary and can be coordinated by the Park Clinic.
